1/5 Scale RC Cars

The purpose of this website and this page in particular is to provide information on 1:5 scale rc cars (or one-fifth, 1:5 scale remote controlled cars). In addition to providing information on 15 scale rc cars and trucks, we will look for the best deals from the best suppliers of 1:5 scale rc cars and trucks for you too.

1:5 Scale RC Cars

The hobby market for fast rc cars has come a long way over the last 30 years. From the beginnings of the limited range of battery powered cars in those days has emerged a larger and much more powerful range of vehicles. Although electric rc cars still dominate overall sales, the performance market of gas powered rc (radio controlled or remote controlled) cars and trucks has emerged for those wanting more power and speed.

Size has become the buzz word in these performance RC cars. So, they have bigger tyres, bigger frames and are built to a larger scale. 1/8 scale RC models is the norm but they have much more powerful engines. These performance models are clearly intended to withstand a lot of rough treatment.

They are not the flimsy plastic models of yesteryear that fell apart after a week's use. Most of the larger RC cars are gas powered, which means more torque and that power distribution to the wheels is constant. They are almost unstoppable.

Then came the latest trend - the 1/5 scale RC cars. These are big - often measuring over three feet in length and a foot in height - and are easily capable of reaching speeds of nearly fifty miles per hour.

There are some kit 1/5 scale RC cars about, but most of them are RTR, which stands for 'ready to run'. That is, there is a minimum of assembly to complete in these rc package deals and the engine does not need running in.

A typical 1:5 scale RC car will be powered by a 29cc engine and a 2.4G transmitter. They will often reach a maximum speed of 44 mph (70 kmh). Again, typical dimensions might be LxWxH: 817x480x255mm on front wheels of 395mm and rear wheels of 400mm. They often have rear disc brakes, a wheelbase of 570mm and front suspension travel of 95mm. They usually run on petrol (gas), often with an oil additive like a two-stroke motor cycle.

Gas Remote Control Cars

Are you one of those who has always said that Nitro buggies were too fiddly for you? In that case, the large gas remote control cars are definitely for you! Most of them are equipped with powerful, easy-start 23cc petrol engines, high torque servos, a rugged long travel suspension system, a heavy duty drive train, high grip tyres, high ground clearance and a large fuel tank. All these features combine to give the off-road 1/5 RC car the ability to perform over the harshest terrains with the greatest of ease.

Remote Controlled Trucks

Remote controlled trucks come in a large variety of sizes, shapes, power units and prices. Remote controlled trucks start at 1:32 scale and go up to the full 1/5th scale. Some remote controlled trucks are electrically powered, some are battery powered and others run on nitro or petrol. There are many types too, from pantechnicon trucks to delivery vans and earth movers to flatbed lorries.

Remote Control Gas Car

The remote control gas car market is the largest sector of the remote controlled vehicles sold. My favourite remote controlled gas car is the 1/5 scale gas powered RTR H5 Ford GT. This huge 1/5 scale RC car comes complete with a ready assembled chassis, 3 Ch FM Radio (with built in fail safe) and a painted Ford GT body.

It is powered by a 23cc Zenoah Engine, a 450cc fuel tank and a 15kg metal gear ratio. It has 2 WD and disc brakes for better stopping power. This amazing monster of a car runs on a mixture of unleaded gasoline and 2-stroke oil. It needs zero break in time and has the lowest cost per minute of use guaranteed.

Petrol Remote Control Car

The typical petrol remote control car is equipped with a fast 23cc petrol engine, high torque servos, rugged long travel suspension system, a heavy duty drive train, high grip tyres, high ground clearance and large fuel tank to save you time. All these powerful features combine to give the petrol remote control car the ability to perform over the harshest terrains with ease.

Their pre installed computer radio has many useful functions to help fine-tune these 1:5 petrol remote control monsters and the remote control uses the popular steering wheel style transmitter, which is often complimented with a super-soft touch steering wheel direction controller.
